Dear Friends and Members,
As summer winds down and a new school year begins, we are excited to share all that is ahead at the
Wiregrass Museum of Art. While the calendar year is drawing closer to an end, this season marks a new
chapter for WMA as we deepen our role in the community, elevating the museum as a place to learn and play. We are thrilled to announce that our Bus on Us program has expanded this year to include Dothan City Schools, Houston County Schools, and now Geneva, Dale, and Henry County Schools. This growth allows us to welcome even more students into the museum’s galleries and classrooms, offering access to art experiences that inspire creativity and learning. We will also be providing a curriculum that targets academic goals in literacy, math, and science.
This fall, we are proud to present an exhibition drawn from WMA’s permanent collection, the foundation of our museum. A museum’s collection is more than a gathering of artworks, it is a teaching tool, a resource for discovery, and a mirror reflecting the stories of our region. For local students, it provides opportunities to see themselves represented and to understand how their own experiences contribute to the broader cultural narrative of the Wiregrass. By engaging with the collection, students and visitors learn not only about art, but also about the value of their own voices and their role in
shaping our shared story.
Alongside the collection, we are thrilled to open Ann Marie Auricchio’s exhibition, Rupture & Bloom. This deeply immersive
installation explores emotional turbulence and transformation through monumental scale, layered surfaces, and
atmospheric light. This installation, including collage and painting, extends the themes of ecological regeneration and
psychological resilience. Using colors that draw on natural systems – blues of water, crimsons of fire, and earthy neutrals – Auricchio captures the fragile beauty of transformation. We also look forward to our biggest community event of the year this October – the Pumpkin Patch Family Art Festival, presented in partnership with Hot Glass Academy. This free festival is a celebration of art, creativity, and family fun, bringing together people of all ages to enjoy hands-on activities and live glassblowing demonstrations.
Events like this highlight WMA’s role as a place where our community gathers, learns, and celebrates together. As members, you make this work possible. Your support ensures that WMA remains a space where art connects us, where children can discover their creativity, and where families can build lasting memories together.
