Dear Friends and Members,
As we move into the height of summer, there’s a palpable energy flowing through the Wiregrass Museum of Art. This quarter marks an exciting chapter filled with new exhibitions, educational impact, and dynamic programming that reflects the museum’s ongoing commitment to creativity, community, and accessibility. We’re thrilled to welcome visitors into a season that celebrates both the power of contemporary art and the joy of shared experiences.
We’re proud to present Life of the Party, a solo exhibition by acclaimed Louisiana-based artist Vitus Shell, whose bold mixed media paintings explore Black identity, culture, and resilience through powerful portraiture and layered storytelling. Alongside this, Constructions: Contemporary Fiber brings together innovative artists pushing the boundaries of traditional fiber practices to create sculptural and conceptual works that challenge and inspire. From the museum’s own collection, our photography exhibition In Focus highlights key works that explore memory, place, and narrative, offering a rare chance to engage with these powerful pieces in dialogue with current conversations in art.
Education remains at the heart of everything we do, and this summer has been one of our most impactful yet. With a full calendar of camps, outreach programs, and in-gallery learning experiences, WMA has reached hundreds of young artists and families. Thanks to generous support and community partnerships, we are distributing more than 1,600 free art kits to local and regional organizations, ensuring that access to creativity extends far beyond our museum walls. This kind of inclusive programming speaks to our mission of serving the entire Wiregrass region.
We’re also expanding how we connect art and audience through events that invite new ways of experiencing the museum. This summer, we launched ArtFX, a three-month music series pairing regional DJs with current exhibitions to create immersive soundscapes and social experiences within the galleries. This new series is just one of the many ways we’re activating our spaces to make art more engaging and alive for all generations of visitors.
