Wiregrass Museum of Art Announces B26: Wiregrass Biennial Featuring Artists from Across the Southeast

DOTHAN, Ala. — The Wiregrass Museum of Art is pleased to announce B26: Wiregrass Biennial, a juried exhibition showcasing an exceptional collection of contemporary works by artists from across the Southeastern United States. Open to artists living and working in the Southeast aged 18 and older, this year’s biennial received a record number of submissions, with more than 900 entries considered for inclusion.

Jurors Sean Miller and Bethany Taylor selected 36 artists representing nine states for the exhibition. B26: Wiregrass Biennial presents a dynamic survey of contemporary artistic practices, including painting, sculpture, installation, multimedia, and illustration, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with a wide range of perspectives and creative approaches shaping the Contemporary South today.

“Selected from over 900 submissions, the 36 works in this year’s biennial exhibition truly reflect the dedication, vulnerability, and ongoing practices of each artist,” said jurors Sean Miller and Bethany Taylor. “The wide variety and quality of the works made the jurying process very challenging but incredibly meaningful. The final selection reflects a careful balance between distinct voices and shared experiences and concerns.”

The jurors continued, “As jurors, we were attentive to works that demonstrated innovation, clarity of intention, a strong relationship between concept and material, and an ability to resonate with conditions and possibilities particular to the Contemporary South. Across the selected works, several themes emerge, including transformation, systems and patterns, memory, identity, and belonging.”

 

“The Wiregrass Biennial has become an important platform for showcasing the depth and diversity of contemporary artistic practice across the Southeast,” said Dana-Marie Lemmer, Executive Director of the Wiregrass Museum of Art. “We are thrilled to welcome these artists to Dothan and provide our community with the opportunity to experience work that is thoughtful, innovative, and deeply connected to the cultural conversations of our region.”

B26: Wiregrass Biennial continues WMA’s mission to strengthen the arts community throughout the Southeast by supporting both emerging and established artists while fostering meaningful engagement with contemporary art. The exhibition reflects the museum’s ongoing commitment to celebrating artistic excellence and cultivating a vibrant cultural space for the community.
