Wiregrass Museum of Art Relaunches ArtVentures with a $12,001 grant from the Art Bridges Foundation
DOTHAN, AL: The Wiregrass Museum of Art (WMA) is proud to announce the relaunch of ArtVentures, a free, hands-on learning space made possible through generous support from the Art Bridges Foundation. Returning after more than a decade, ArtVentures invites visitors of all ages to slow down, look closely, and connect with art in deeply personal and creative ways.
The relaunch coincides with a special exhibition featuring works on loan from the Art Bridges Foundation of two influential American artists, Alice Trumbull Mason and Sam Gilliam, on view through June 27, 2026. ArtVentures serves as a living extension of that exhibition, offering interactive experiences inspired by the artists’ techniques, themes, and creative spirits.
A Space for Everyone
Situated in a restored area of the museum – following flood damage in 2024 –ArtVentures is designed to be welcoming, flexible, and fully accessible. ArtVentures will provide an immersive, sensory-rich experience that connects directly to works on view, including paintings on loan by pioneers in abstraction Alice Trumbull Mason and Sam Gilliam. Through rotating, exhibition-responsive prompts, visitors will explore artistic techniques and themes central to Mason’s and Gilliam’s practices.
The reimagined space will feature tactile materials, sensory bins, a poetry wall, and a collaborative “response mural” built from visitor prompt cards. Open-ended artmaking activities will encourage guests to experiment with abstraction, color, movement, and form—key elements in both artists’ work—while fostering personal interpretation and creative confidence.
