I know you are all excited to get to meet your new students and start the new school year!
We are so pleased to share a brief 4-part highlight of some of what the Wiregrass Museum of Art is offering you and your students this year:
1. TOURS: Tours are only $5/ students.
Size limits: Minimum of 5 students. Maximum of 40.
Tours always include both a guided tour of the art AND a hands on art activity.
We have extended our Bus on Us program to reimburse schools in Dothan City, and Houston, Henry, Dale, and Geneva Counties the cost of the bus,mileage, and driver’s time to and from the museum for their tours!

2. I also wanted to mention our new CURRICULUM KITS!
Kits come with art supplies for up to 36 students and may be borrowed from the museum for up to 2 weeks at no cost. This gives you the ability to do one of our art integrated lessons in your own classroom!
You can read about our 14 literacy kits that are aligned with Alabama standards for both Literacy AND Art for grades PreK THROUGH 3rd grade here.
You can read about our 8 STEAM kits that are aligned with Alabama standards for both Math AND Art for 7th-8th grades here.
They were designed to help prepare students for the 7th and 8th grade Math ACAPS, but if your students are covering the target subjects, would be enjoyable for grades 6th-12th.

3. Thanks to a grant from Alabama Power, STUDIO 126, our after school art program for teens 13-16, is FREE for the 25-26 School Year!
Beginning September 2nd, Tuesdays from 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm, September through May, teens are welcome to explore their creative voices through self-directed projects and experimentation with materials, supported weekly by a museum educator and studio artist who will provide mentorship and guidance.

4. Lastly, I wanted to make sure that I mention YOUTH ART MONTH!
Held every March, Youth Art Month is a month-long celebration of student artists, in which WMA partners with elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the Wiregrass region to display student artwork in the museum. The exhibition is open to PK-12th grade students from public, private, and home schools in the region, and emphasizes the value of art and art education for all children and encourages the public to support quality school art programs.
All art award winners will receive a $50 check, will receive recognition during a Dothan City Commission meeting held in early March 2026, and will have their artwork on display for one full year at a variety of locations. ALL DCS submissions (unless winning or otherwise requested), will also be on display for one full year at the DCS central office.
Submissions will be open from January 3rd to February 7th, 2026.
