Wiregrass Museum of Art Receives $45,000 Multi-Year Grant from Windgate Foundation
Dothan, AL 11/17/2025 — The Wiregrass Museum of Art (WMA) is pleased to announce a three-year grant award of $45,000 from the Windgate Foundation in support of its Bus on Us and Curriculum Kits Programs. This investment will provide $15,000 annually from October 2025 through September 2028, strengthening WMA’s ability to deliver free, equitable access to arts education across the Wiregrass region. The Bus on Us program eliminates barriers to student participation by covering the cost of transportation to the museum, while also providing guided museum tours, hands-on artmaking opportunities.
In addition, WMA will provide arts integrated curriculum kits aligned with Alabama State Standards for reading and math for regional public, private, and homeschools. One local teacher shared, “Creating art pieces based on mathematical principles helped students visualize and internalize the math skills.” These resources help classroom teachers connect art learning directly with subjects like math, science, and literacy.
“Thanks to the Windgate Foundation, students from schools across the Wiregrass will have the opportunity to visit the museum, engage with original works of art, and participate in creative learning experiences that would otherwise be out of reach,” said Dana Marie Lemmer, Executive Director of the Wiregrass Museum of Art. “This support ensures that the museum continues to be a vital partner for teachers and schools facing increasing cuts to in-school arts instruction.” With the added support of the Windgate Foundation, WMA will be able to expand the reach of the Bus on Us program to new schools across a four-county Wiregrass region, create, update and distribute curriculum kits, and provide essential professional development workshops for teachers.
