Summer Professional Development at WMA!

A woman leans back in her chair and admires the colorful city scape she has created, laying on the table in front of her.

Would you like to squeeze in some professional development this summer but aren’t sure how to find time in your schedule. We’ve got you covered! WMA is offering both of our online, at your own pace professional development courses for one low price this summer!

Let’s Talk About Art, 8 CEUs

The act of simply looking at art has a multitude of benefits including lowering stress levels, relief from mental exhaustion, increased critical thinking and empathy skills, as well as boosting happiness. In this course, you will learn how to look at art, how to talk about art with your students, and how to create engaging art-based activities across the curriculum.

By the end of this course, you will gain confidence to discuss artworks with your students using common art terms. You’ll also have the knowledge to create art analysis assignments that will help your students activate critical thinking skills and empathy across the curriculum. All activities are aligned with Alabama State Standards for Art for K-6 and the Module 3 Assignment is also aligned with the state standards for ELA.

Upcylcled Art, 8 CEUs

Budgets are tight but that doesn’t mean that art activities must be eliminated. In this self-paced, fully online course, WMA’s Education Director, Brook McGinnis, demonstrates how to make art using what you’ve got on hand. You’ll also learn how easy it is to apply state standards to art projects and how to integrate other subjects into artmaking.

Through readings, videos, and hands-on projects, you’ll investigate best practices when using non-traditional materials in the art class.  The final project gives you the opportunity to create your own lesson using upcycled materials that will align with state standards.  All activities are aligned with Alabama State Standards for Art for K-6.

Registration opens soon!  WMA is offering both courses in a special summer bundle for just $30 for members and $40 for not yet members. That’s two for the price of one! The courses run from June 12- August 27. Registration opens soon. Feel free to contact me with any questions! brook@wiregrassmuseum.org

Whether you choose to learn with us or not this summer, we hope you take some time for yourself to rest and recharge. You’ve earned it!
