Barbara Mann: Tranformation & Evolution

Barbara Mann has had over 35 years’ experience as a metal and jewelry artist. Her work represents highly rendered visions of movement within nature. Of her work, Mann says, “The objects that I make tell a story, relate a concept or record an observation.  The subjects that interest me seem to remain constant: nature, science theories and discoveries, the beauty of form, materials and detail.  The visual and physical elements in the immediate environment are starting points.  The process of making an object is pure pleasure.  I strive for excellent craftsmanship and the ability to distill a discovery of seeing or perceiving.”

She graduated from the University of Georgia with BFA and MFA degrees and has taught for many years as an adjunct instructor at UGA Lamar Dodd School of Art. She has also taught with the UGA Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy and in Costa Rica; through the UGA continuing Education program; and with Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. In addition, she has conducted numerous workshops throughout the Southeast.

Mann’s work is in many collections including The Mint Museum of Art, The Georgia Museum of Art, The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, and The Committee for the Olympic Development of Atlanta, and Nations Bank. Barbara is currently president of the Athens Metal Arts Guild.

The exhibition is on display in the Dove Gallery from July 17 through December 31, 2015.
