Rupture and Bloom

Rupture & Bloom by Ann Marie Auricchio is an exhibition that explores the cycles of breaking and becoming through the inclusion of large-scale collaged paintings. At its center are four major pieces, one composed of forty-one fractured parts and three layered panel paintings. Each work is distinct yet connected by their origins in collage. Together, they form a constellation of works that share a common source, brought into dialogue within gallery walls painted in an atmospheric color gradient in order to create an immersive environment.

Auricchio’s process begins with cutting into her own paintings, dismantling them to uncover new possibilities. Through this act of rupture, fragments are reassembled into turbulent, morphing forms that embody both instability and renewal. The installation channels the ephemeral qualities of natural and emotional landscapes, evoking the paradox of destruction as a generative force, like forest fires that clear ground for renewal or volcanic ash that fertilizes the earth. Smaller works in the exhibition, ranging from intimate collages on paper to irregularly shaped paintings in oil, extend these themes through vivid chromatic intensity. Their surfaces reference natural phenomena, from water’s shifting depths to the fiery tones of emotion, mapping the interplay of fragility, rupture, and resilience.

Through Rupture & Bloom, Auricchio reframes overwhelm not as an ending but as a threshold for growth. Her dynamic forms and layered compositions underscore the paradox of breaking and becoming, inviting viewers to witness the possibilities that emerge from fracture. Ultimately, the exhibition meditates on resilience and renewal, offering a powerful visual language of disruption and hope, and affirming the bloom that follows rupture.

About the Artist

Ann Marie Auricchio lives and works in New Orleans, LA. Auricchio earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and has attended residencies at the Joan Mitchell Center and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Recent solo exhibitions have been held at Ferrara Showman Gallery (New Orleans, LA), the Spring/Break Art Show NYC, and Michael Warren Contemporary (Denver, CO). Auricchio previously held a 25-year tenure in the entertainment industry as a scenic artist and designer for film, theater, and television. Included in many private collections nationally, her work is also a part of the permanent collections of McNeese State University, Azamara Cruise Lines and the Scott Companies.
