Visiting Artist Workshop: Floristry Unbound with Holly Carlisle

February 3, 2023

12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

$50 for members; $60 for not-yet members

Create a one-of-a-kind seasonal botanical arrangement with floristry expert and visual artist Holly Carlisle. Together, we will explore the “The Birmingham Style” which is a unique approach to floristry developed in Birmingham, AL by two friends during the 1960s named Beth McReynolds and Lula Rose Blackwell, who, together, created a singular style characterized by the juxtaposition of traditional Japanese and British flower arranging philosophies and techniques. We will work exclusively with seasonal materials, both foraged and grown by Alabama flower farmers. We will create unique expressive works that honor the seasonal moment we are in while we learn how to get outside the “floral design box” as we focus on how thinking like an artist can revolutionize your work with botanicals as your medium.

About Holly Carlisle:

Holly Carlisle is an artist, teacher, and consummate creative. Over the past 12 years of working as the creative director of ROSEGOLDEN, her custom event design, planning and floristry studio, she has developed a singular style that is defined by place and time.

Holly’s dedication to using seasonal materials from her environment – whether cut from her garden or foraged from the side of the road – allows her to redefine the concept of beauty in her own terms. Her work expresses a seasonal harmony that is evocative and heady. Holly’s work has been widely published and her reputation as a teacher has earned her many opportunities to teach here domestically and all over the world.
