Saturday evening, August 10th found WMA’s garden filled with hundreds of people enjoying live music, art demonstrations, amazing food, and the occasional cool breeze during Yard Party for Art, the museum’s annual one-night celebration of its mission to bring engaging art and accessible educational programming to the Wiregrass.
The crowd was treated to four incredible live acts, a virtual reality experience from local design and web services firm PushCrankPress, a glass blowing demonstration by Hot Glass Academy (Americus, Georgia), mystical “aura” photography by Charlotte Watts from Flora Aura Photography (Atlanta, Georgia), a beer tasting from local brewery Folklore Brewing & Meadery, delicious food from four local food vendors, and yard games — an event unlike any other in our community.
WMA’s staff would like to thank the more than forty volunteers who made the evening so perfect. From setting up in the morning to breaking down in the evening, greeting guests at the gate and taking tickets, answering questions, handing out free water, and preparing and serving and array of gourmet treats for the guests in the VIP Oasis Tent, you made YPA a fabulous event for one and all this year!
The museum also thanks the 41 sponsors, partners, and in-kind sponsors who made YPA possible again this year. WMA would not be able to host an event like Yard Party for Art without the support of our local business community. Thank you for once again helping us bring so many talented musicians and artists to Dothan to celebrate the arts and creative expression in the Wiregrass.
Stay tuned for details about YPA 2020, and in the meantime, check out the Happenings calendar to attend an exhibition opening, take a class or workshop from one of WMA’s art educators or a visiting artist, wander the galleries with your family, or catch a film under the stars out in the yard. And be sure to check out the benefits of becoming a museum member! We’d love to see you again soon — and often!
